Tip Of The Week--Cleaning The Grill

Help in keeping the Barbeque Pit Clean

Cover the cooking rack completely with aluminum foil and put it on the hot, covered grill for 30 minutes. The grill will act like a self-cleaning oven, just be sure to remove remnant stalactiles.

To prevent gunky buildup from recurring, spray non-stick cooking oil on the rack before each use. It will make future cleanings faster and easier. Careful not to spray near the flames, or you could be barbecued.

Spiderwebs can block gas lines and cause fires. To clean them out, make sure the grill’s at room temperature. Use a wire or Q-tips to clear the webs.

To remove soot from the bottoms of pans, lightly rub the bottoms with a bar of soap before putting them on the hot grill. The pans will be Zestfully clean after cooking with them.

Dip a cloth into a canister of waterless hand cleaner. Rub the cleaner onto the exterior of the cool grill, working it in well. With the cleaner still on, buff the surface with paper towels. Stop when you can see your reflection.

To check gas connections, coat them with an equal mix of dish detergent and lukewarm water. When you turn on the gas, bubbles will form if there’s a leak. No bubbles means no worries.
